ENTRY 07: THE DEATHSLINGER (Caleb Quinn)

"Upon catching prey unaware, the Deathslinger uses his handmade gun – The Redeemer – to skewer fleeing Survivors with a long-distance harpoon. Accurate aim, patient tracking, and sharp predictions are crucial to landing successful shots, but the reward of a Survivor’s scream as they’re reeled in will never sound so sweet."

LORE SUMMARY: Caleb was a lonely, bullied boy who grew up in the old west, and as Irish immigrants, his family was discriminated against wherever they went. His father was an engineer, but had difficulty finding work until the end of his life, passing his knowledge on to his son before he died. Caleb became an inventor for a railway company, but his inventions would eventually be sold to other companies without credit, and Caleb made an attempt on his boss's life.

In prison, Caleb earned the warden's favor with his increasingly sadistic gadgets, became head of his own gang, and was even set free so long as he and his posse hunted down other outlaws for the prison, until it turned out the Warden was selling the prison to none other than Caleb's old boss. Refusing to be under the same bastard's control ever again, Caleb beat them both and left them to be ripped apart in a prison riot before retreating to his old cell in a stupor, where a mysterious fog began surrounding him.

  A game about various murderers is kind of obligated to do something or other with guns, but one with a realistic, modern weapon would kind of suck the horror-movie fun out of the situation and skirt too close to real world tragedy. A cowboy is the perfect solution, and a mad inventor cowboy with his own original weaponry is even better. Caleb's rifle is more like a harpoon gun, firing a barbed spear on a chain, and of course it also serves as his melee weapon thanks to a bayonet blade. It's a decent example of how to contend with that fine line between what's entertainingly dark and what's just dark; not many reasonable people are clamoring to play a believable gunman you might see in the news.

  Designwise, well, he's a cowboy, but he's also got a burnt face and luminous, blue-white eyes, like the eyes of the Wraith. His bio also mentions that he sees "everyone who ever wronged him" in the fog, lending more credence to the theory that white-eyed killers are under more of a spell or delusion than others.

BEST SKIN(S):

"TWILIGHT SWARM:" there's a set of cosmetics that add a bunch of moths to a character, and Caleb is one of them. Sure, why not! Now he's a mad cowboy inventor covered in moths! I understand completely and do not need to know the original context. There is nothing moths don't go with.

"DEATHSLINGER'S MASK:" I haven't been including these so far, but every Killer also has a fancy blue and gold ballroom mask for the fancy gala event, and Caleb's is in the shape of a bull skull, naturally! I'd love to see what they'd do in terms of making him into some sort of actual beast-man. Hillbilly gets to be a frog guy! Let Caleb be an actual cow-skull-head guy! Or maybe like, a vulture guy? A scorpion???
