Description:
A rather large, hovering biomechanoid with a grey to black chassis, shaped somewhat like a vertically stretched skull, with various mechanical tubes, nozzles, and electrical bulbs protruding from it. Its organic eyeballs whirl in tall sockets pulsing with red inner flesh. It has two large, mechanical, skeletal looking arms, one ending in a taloned hand and the other in a massive buzzsaw.
BIOLOGY:
"Bearing the final glyph of a long-dead alphabet, the T-Mangler is the pinnacle of biomechanical technology, a fusion of monster and machine fully capable of autonomous operation and decision-making with no need for a pilot or assistant brain."
...So claims the "sales pitch" peddled by the self-proclaimed and as yet anonymous developer of the "Mangler," but the sheer volume of unused junk data lurking in the depths of its complex genome suggests a different origin, and the promised further iterations of this "T-Series" of biomecha have never been delivered upon.
Nevertheless, the Mangler does make a highly effective minion if what its trainer desires is simple and effective carnage. The Mangler's "screaming saw" is composed of a biogenic alloy that re-attaches to the body as necessary to regenerate, and the force of its rotation generates enough heat that it can burn through those few materials it cannot simply rend asunder. While its eyes appear to spin aimlessly, it is steadily gathering as much visual data on its situation as it can to be processed at lightning speed by its complex cybernetic mind, contained in a series of carefully arranged ganglia that form a basket-like structure interwoven with the underside of its upper carapace.
Confronted with an enemy it cannot easily tear apart, it can eject the unprocessed contents of its digestive system from its frontal exhaust port and various pipes with greater force than a hand cannon, perforating foes with scalding shrapnel before a follow up attack.
An aperture for the insertion of a brain is present in the monster's stunted abdomen, but its capacity to properly interface with an installed brain is limited by a massively distended adrenal gland that protrudes into the braincase.
Exploratory dissection of the Mangler has largely proven fruitless to determine the precise mechanisms of its functionality and origins. Separate sexes have been observed, but feral reproduction remains unconfirmed.
BEHAVIOR:
Despite the questionable veracity of its alleged origins, much of the Mangler's enigmatic publicity blurb checks out; its degree of autonomy far and away surpasses any previously documented Biomecha, as independently sapient as any Bioconstruct from the moment of its replication. Much of this exceptional built-in processing power is devoted to its eponymous function, spending most of its downtime devising creative new ways to render even the hardiest opponents into messy chunks and pooling fluids. A patient teacher may be able to instruct the mech in more constructive violence - such as butchering, demolition, landscaping or papercraft - supposing they can account for its tendency to lose itself in the delight of its own purpose.
In the heat of battle or its favorite hobbies, the Mangler's internal motor may begin emitting a sound akin to a maniacal, clanging sort of laughter.
When a brain is installed in the Mangler, it grows agitated and escalates its freedom of thought towards a tendency for misbehaviour, exacerbated by physical stress on its adrenal gland.
Concept Notes:
This colorization of Z-Mangler was actually prepared for the book over twelve years ago, and only lightly spruced up before this upload. The "Z-series" were the first monsters ever made for the Biomecha class and remained its only representatives for many years, but new mechanoids were made in a slightly wider diversity by the time of the final book, and they were given new mechanics that revolved around swappable brains. The "Z-mecha" have been renamed and reinvented heavily in the background, and you can consider this a preview of more lore to come in future books or uploads.
