THE HERISSMON FAMILY

BABY I: PUSUMON

Holy cow, a 2018 digimon now. It's 2019 as I write this. It's a bit sad that only a handful of digimon have been released each year since Xros Wars, and in some cases a full year has gone by without any at all...though it's still a higher frequency of new additions than Pokemon's "60-100 every 3-4 years" model. I would love if we actually just got maybe 20 new pokemon every year.

This line was introduced for the "ReArise" game, and is basically just a digimon style hedgehog, though it does have an interesting twist in a couple of evolutions...

RATING:

BABY II: PUSURIMON

Not much to say here; the hedgehog is growing.

RATING:

CHILD: HERISSMON

Child-stage Herissmon is an alright design for a hedgehog digimon. The jagged mouth is definitely cute, the spininess is well done, it even feels like the kind of child digimon we saw in the first couple years of the series.

However, as far as I know, you actually have to play ReArise with this digimon as your partner, at least for the main story, so, hope you like hedgehogs? Many more digimon are in the game, so I don't know exactly how this all works, but Herissmon is considered your character's main digimon and central to the storyline.

RATING:

ADULT: FILMON

If you were expecting some kind of wannabe Sonic, Herissmon's downright frightening evolution should be either a huge letdown or a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't have expected a hedgehog monster to look more like a werewolf once it evolved, but, I actually really like it, especially since it doesn't have any unnecessary clothing or cybernetics going on. It's just really cool looking! It's not the kind of cool looking I'm personally into, but I can acknowledge it as cool looking! Even 5/5 cool looking!

RATING:

PERFECT: STIFFILMON

Speaking of werewolves and speaking of clothing, I don't like Stiffilmon quite as much as Filmon, but again, it's not at all the direction I though herissmon would go, and it has a remarkably monstrous feel to it. I know they had a "Werehog" in one of the Sonic games, but THIS is a real Werehog. I'm just not sure how I feel about the open-crotched pants.

RATING:

ULTIMATE: RASENMON

Ehhhh. I'm really not as into this one as the previous form either. It's a bit too busy, even if a lot of its elements are individually cool, and another digimon that gets just a little too human for me to find as cool as it could have been. This is apparently Rasenmon's truest form after "learning to accept and control its negative emotions," because initially, your hedgehog goes totally berserk and takes on a very different form...

RATING:

ULTIMATE: RASENMON FURY MODE

A shadowy, multi-eyed, nine-tailed demon kitsune hedgehog, huh? Again, PRETTY unexpected. Also a bit busy again, but I like the color scheme! It's one of the "Bewitching Beast" type digimon, and evolved this way due to negative emotional data flowing into Stiffilmon.
