Bogleech.com's 2014 Horror Write-off:

"  Labyrinth Land "

Submitted by   Mars J. Letourneau

It's been four days since I fell through that stupid fucking portal behind the 7-11. I've been wandering through this dungeon the whole time and progressively getting more and more stressed out. I'm calling it Labyrinth Land because it's like a bullshit maze version of a theme park. All the rides are mold and fast shapes in the darkness and if you drop your ice cream no one will give you a new one.

There are no gods here. Whatever rules this place is far more sinister. I'm very grateful that I found this sword though, even if it seems kinda shitty. It was next to a skull. Not a skeleton just a lone skull. So I guess it was a floating telekinetic head? I don't know. I keep trying to go upwards. I really hope this isn't just a dimension of never ending hallways but I have no idea where I am. The first few days were fine, if weird and scary, but yesterday I encountered something that wasn't a bug or a rodent. For some reason there's always dim light around me so I can see a few feet in both directions, I'm not even going to question why. Anyway, I was wandering through this bullshit hell dimension and I hear something behind me really close. I whip around in a blind panic and shakily hit it upside the face with my sword, not chopping into its skull but leaving a decent gash. I didn't get a good look but it was about three feet tall and to my dismay it looked like a little man. So I'm pretty sure I got jumped by a goblin. It made a gross high pitched noise at me and ran away into the darkness. I haven't been able to rest easy since then. But I keep walking. It's the only thing I can do, you know?

I came up to another fork in the hallways and decided to go left. I kept walking in the darkness for maybe 30 feet when I was stopped by an enormous toad. I stopped to process what I was looking at. It was huge and rubbery blackish with pale, ghostly reflective eyes. One of the few indications that it wasn't just a carving on the end of the hall was the gentle sound of its breathing and the puffing up of its throat pouch thing. Me and the toad stared at each other silently for a long while, just kind of regarding each other. Then it inflated its throat really big and its maw opened explosively. Rats boiled out in a wave, the leaders of the swarm running around my ankles. It didn't take long for me to haul ass out of there. I'm not sure they were really rats. I made a sharp turn to the other path and just hoped the rats wouldn't follow me. I started down the new path praying to whatever was listening.

I walked. And I walked and I walked. And I walked and I walked and I walked. And I walked some more. And I just walked. Like there were weird slimes and molds and uncomfortably obvious traps but there were no more wallfrogs or goblin things. Most of my dungeon hell experience was just nervously walking in the dark. I was zoned out in a zen altered state of mind, just traversing shit, and I was shaken from my trance. Light. Daylight. Really. My heart leapt from my chest and I ran like mad for the exit. There was a trap door with a rope ladder coming down. I scrambled out and the sun hit my face. I cried a bit in relief and sat in the grass with my head in my hands. Calming my breathing, I stood up and surveyed my surroundings.

I was in a courtyard containing an overgrown garden. I tensely looked around and figured I was in some kind of abandoned castle. Oh great. I wandered up to one of the exits (entrances?) and looked through. Corridors. Hallways. Long ones. I screamed and threw myself on the floor. I just laid there too furious to move. I would estimate 20 minutes were spent rigid against the dirt, roaring occasionally. I rolled around groaning and beating the ground. Fine. I pulled myself up in a huff and readied my sword. I opened the door and stomped through this bullshit castle. If any goblins or some shit are in here they'd better not mess with me if they value their health and the wholeness of their faces.

Fucking magical ass bullshit castle portal. Stupid fucking fantasy rpg shit. I hate it I hate it.
