Bogleech.com's 2014 Horror Write-off:

" "Black Flies" "

Submitted by Irene Vallone

T’was early in the spring when I decide to go
To work up in the woods of north Ontare-eye-oh
And the unemployment office said they’d send me through
To the Little Abitibi with the survey crew
And the black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

The man Black Toby was the leader of the gang
'Bout ten feet tall, a mammoth of a man
He said “Listen here, boys, let’s all get up and go
And figure out a place for the power dam to go”
And the black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

We worked another way for the Little Ab to flow
But the little black flies made the work go slow
Hard work all day, couldn’t cut no slack
With the buzzing in the air and the sky all black
With the black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

Coverin' every rock, swarmin' every tree
Those little black flies wouldn't let us be
Bitin' every minute, every hour, every day
Prayed the devil'd take pity and take the flies away
The black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

They stung us on our faces and they crawled up in our ears
Buzzin’ and a-buzzin’ all our worries and our fears
Our bones got brittle and our skin got stale
And we talked to the flies as we staggered ‘round the trail
Black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

Saw hide nor hair of the survey crew
Figured I was all alone, at a loss of what to do
I saw Black Toby, he was screamin’ out loud
Nothin’ but his bones and a big black cloud
Of black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I’ll die with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh

At last the job was over, all the crew was dead
"They're in a better place now" is what the flies said
But all the flies are liars and I'll tell you so
If you should ever come to north Ontare-eye-oh
With the black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
You'll die with the black fly pickin' your bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
In north Ontare-eye-oh
The black flies, the little black flies
Always the black fly no matter where you go
I died with the black fly pickin' my bones
In north Ontare-eye-oh-eye-oh
