PUTREPHILE - The Fly Baby

CLASS: BIOCONSTRUCT

Engineered to break down the corpses that pile up so rapidly at Mortasheen's borders, the Putrephile is technically a single mind with multiple bodies: both the baby-like mobile "carrier" and the thousands of bio-engineered "boreflies" that nest within its hollow skull. With their razor sharp mouthparts and acidic saliva, these insects can drill through flesh with such speed that they have even proven effective in active combat, though the monster will not attack living beings if not strictly ordered to do so.

Once a swarm of boreflies have eaten their fill of meat, they mate, lay several thousand eggs, and perish. The maggots will hatch within hours and grow to their full length in under two days, at which point the carrier returns to the corpse to slurp up both the pulverized flesh and the borefly larva, which are able to pupate only in the gelatinous lining of the carrier's skull.

Like most monsters, a Putrephile can be taught or modified to speak, though its intellect is limited and its interests extend little beyond food. It employs the collective buzzing of insect wings as its vocal chords, producing a squeaky, electronic-sounding voice that randomly hums and twitters.
