POXULE - "Blaster Blisters"

CLASS: FECTOID

MACROFORM:The tiniest Fectoid in its natural state, the Poxule is timid and easily spooked, preferring to avoid confrontation and feed primarily upon algae or slime molds. When threatened, the shy creature may emit thin, slicing beams from its eyes, or when sufficiently agitated, explode with enough force to blow a small hole in even the toughest skin cover, releasing millions of infectious microbodies in the process.

MICROFORM: The Poxule is the only Fectoid known to risk scattering its infectious stage as an airborne cloud, most of which will perish when they fail to contact open wounds or mucous membranes. Multiplying exponentially in a living body, the surviving nanomonsters cause respiratory complications, severe discomfort and bouts of unusual panic while hundreds of minute new poxule are assembled directly under the host's skin, tearing and slicing their way out. These duplicates are not proper, independently conscious young, but seek to either infect additional hosts or fuse together into a much larger, more destructive macroform.

REPRODUCTION: The Poxule's escalating cycle of explosion/infection continues until it no longer feels threatened, at which point it will slough off its excess biomass and return to its original size. Viable young will develop in the remains, having borrowed fresh genetic information from previous hosts. They will quickly scatter, each frightened that one of its siblings may also become frightened.

PERSONALITY: unlike the Pneumania, the Poxule loathes frightening stimuli and will take great pains to seclude itself in safety, even knowing that danger only tends to strengthen and multiply it.
