Bogleech.com's 2017 Horror Write-off:

BROTHER

Submitted by Jac R. B. (JacobGuy)

My concentration Is broken by the sudden, new voice. Stern, intense, yet soothing and familiar.

"It's Been An Eternity, Brother."

Everyone looks around frantically for who could be speaking, before a shape melds from the wall.

DOPPLER

smooth, indistinct, whatever this being is's form wobbles to and fro as if unstable, struggling to maintain composure, yet seems... solid, not like the ghosts who despite their gooey, rubbery texture, seem floaty and arid, even liquid or gelatinous at times.

"Uh Oh buddy. This guy is Bad news bears"

"This Does Not Concern You."

Seb seems to tremble some, not the same tremble of excitement that they maintained before. it seems fearful. I ask as quietly as I can who or what this is, and Seb, quieter than I've seen in the some half hour I've known them, answers in return;

"We Can't say for sure, But I can say that whatever it is, Its not dead, but its not alive either"

the way Seb says this to me implies a greater history than I would've thought

"If You Are Finished, I Have Business To Attend To Here."

"What Business could you possibly have with Us?"

"Not You, Them"

It points to me

"what could you possibly want with them? they just got here!"

The Being sits silently for a moment. Despite its wobbling, unstable form, its face stays static and does not move, nor does it change. it does not move its eyes, it does not blink.

"Alright Then, If I Must Prove My Business To You. Please, If You Can, Name A Single Memory From Your Life. Name One."

their words hit me like a brick wall, and i don't know why. If i could sweat I'd be pouring it. the being simply nods and approaches me. Seb and the others try to block its path but it simply pushes them to the side, somehow able to grip them, even when they don't want to be. It places a single "hand" on my shoulder.

"Brother, It's Time To Go."

"Brother?"

and with that I felt myself Rising, I look down to see my new friends quickly fading from view. everything blurs around me before I am blinded by a great light.

I find myself in the middle of a forest with the grey being's arm wrapped around mine. They walk forward. Though it looks like its slow motion, we move very quickly. we find ourselves at an old, empty house, and they take me inside. Its dark, and cold, but not unpleasant.

"You Must Stay Here."

"...Why?"

The Being had already turned its back to me to leave, but it stops when I ask. It takes a moment, as if considering what I said before speaking up.

"Because, I Made A Promise."

And with that it was gone, phased through the ground. I try to find my way back, but the sunlight feels so tiring. I think it must be something to do with how ghosts work.
I go back inside and wait, for what, I'm not sure, but I stay in the dark. No matter what I do, I simply feel more and More tired with each passing minute.
I dont know how long I stayed like this before something finally drug me out of a haze. a slam against the door, followed by a scrambling noise.

I would've thought some animal busted in if I didn't hear a familiar voice speak up

"BUDDY?? YOU HERE?"
