" MATERNITY WARD "

Submitted by Jac R.B. (JacobGuy)

I woke up.

Last thing I remember was holding my baby after giving birth.

I was so tired I passed right out after the doctor took the baby back. I don't know how long I've been asleep, and my wife is nowhere to be found. I pressed the button to call for the nurse and waited for what felt like a few hours, but noone came. I felt fine for some reason. In fact, I could get up and stand all in my own.

I must have been here much longer than I thought.

How long have I been asleep?

I walked out of my room, looking for a doctor, or maybe a nurse to talk to about what was going on but, there wasn't anyone anywhere.

It was like the place was just...

Abandoned

I suddenly remembered my baby, I needed to find them.

It took a while before I got to the actual maternity ward, or at least the part where they kept the babies.

I couldn't see through the glass very well, so I went around and got into the room.

All the babies where covered by blankets, which seemed pretty odd. I didn't move them because I didn't want to disturb them and looked for my baby. I checked each clipboard until I found the one with my baby's name.

I picked him up gently, and uncovered his face...

Whatever I was holding, it wasn't human. Frozen in shock, the giant yellow, maggot-like creature in my arms simply swayed from side to size before settling down while all the other beds suddenly shook to life. They too, were full of these yellow maggots, throwing the blankets off of themselves and wriggling around as if in distress.

I heard buzzing from down the hall, then something slammed against the grey, smudged glass. I couldn't make out exactly what the figure was, but it too was distinctly non-human.

I was still frozen in fear.

Whatever it was, its long slender figure darted over to the door and came in.

I was face to face with some kind of gigantic wasp. It was over 7 feet tall and looked as upset as I could read from an insect.

It grabbed me by the shoulders with its frontmost legs and pulled my close to its face.

It seemed to chew on something invisible with its mouthparts, when I heard a soft, quiet, voice come from it.

"You need to leave ma'am, you're disturbing the children."

Still in a state of shock, the wasp picked me up and carried me out and to my room, my "baby" in tow. I was confronted with another wasp. This one seemed familiar somehow.

It spoke.

"Come on honey, let's go home."
