Bogleech.com"s 2015 Horror Write-off:

" Desert nights "

Submitted by Jac R.B. (JacobGuy)

My journey goes far through the desert. The golden sand beating harshly against all inhabitants. Worry not for me, for I am well equipped with my shawl and sun running goggles.

They say there is wisdom in the dunes, for those who wish to pursue it.

I've spent many a year searching, I have gone for so long I no longer have a name. All friends and family have given up on me and yet I persist.

I approach the heart of the very sands themselves, in the mother desert at the center of the world.

Night falls, and I persist.

As I continue I spy a hunched figure on the highest dune, and I approach.

It was a measly thing.

An emaciated human like thing with the skull of a jackal.

It ate something black and slowly beating in its hands, its heart. The moonlight reflected off of its milky white, lidless eyes.

I stood over it, and it directed no attention to me.

I asked a question.

"Is it good?"

And it responded

"It is cold. And it is bitter. But I enjoy it. Because it is mine. And mine alone."

It continued its silent feast, and left me be.

I simply laid down on the dune and watched the stars.
