The Real Ghostbusters
Ssomething else I got to see online recently was the "Real Ghostbusters" episode, "Collect Call of Cathulhu", based on the famous literary works of Howard Philips Lovecraft. Though I knew nothing of the source material at the time, it was the very first episode I ever saw on television and made me an instant fan.

While Cthulhu's name is mispelled and his weakness to electricity is pulled out of nowhere, the episode is chock full of references to Lovecraft's Mythos and some reasonably faithful adaptations of his creatures. Coolest of all is the Shoggoth, which comes to life from a statue:

Also featured are the spawn of Cthulhu, which steal the Necronomicon to aid in the summoning of their master.

I'd love to do an extensive review of this episode someday, but I would really need access to some DVD-quality pictures. Maybe when they finally get off their asses and release some proper season sets, I'll get around to doing an article.
